On Sunday, April 30, hundreds of Superheroes will descend upon the Atlantic City Boardwalk for the 7th Annual Seashore Gardens 5K Run & Walk. This is a beloved event that benefits our Alzheimer’s Outreach Services, and this year’s chairman, Michael Weinraub, and his wife Cindy are passionate about both the cause-and about running.

As an SGLC board member, Mike was the one who suggested the event years ago as an excellent way to involve families and the community in raising funds for a good cause.  “I’m a former marathoner, and my favorite run is on the Boardwalk,” he says.

“I just run for health and fitness,” acknowledges his wife Cindy, who works as assistant director of recreation at SGLC. A much-loved caretaker of our residents, Cindy also volunteers her time for the run. “I’ve served on the race committee for the past four years,” she said, “and I’ve also won for my age group, twice. She runs with a team named for South Marion, the street where she lives. “We call ourselves the Marionettes,” said Cindy.

Teams are at the heart of the event, and many are formed by SGLC residents’ families. “It’s a fun day to had by all,” said Mike, “and it’s multi-generational. Families come out in costume, and walk or run together, to raise funds for this important cause.”

Superhero capes are optional, but there will be prizes for best costumes in a variety of categories. This also is an official runner’s event with an approved, timed course. “Each year, we get more and more competitive runners,” said Mike.
