Mary Hood knows a thing or two about fundraising. As president of SGLC’s Resident Council she helped inspire staff and other residents to donate to the Seashore Gardens 5K Run & Health Walk to benefit Alzheimer’s Outreach. Mary sat at a table on the SGLC Boardwalk, selling “feet” to support the 5K teams during three “dress down” days for the staff. The staff was able to donate both ways—once for the privilege of dressing down, and again to purchase feet to help this worthy cause.
She invited Resident Council Vice President “Meyer: Mickey Hoffman to the last dress down day table to show him how it worked. They raised the most money on that last day, and credit it to the fact that they did it together.
“Seashore Gardens is my home. It’s been my home for a while. I’ve wanted to have a way to give back, and this is it,” said Mickey. “Mary (Hood) takes this job very seriously. I’m new to all this, but I plan on doing the best I can for Seashore Gardens. It’s a nice thing what they do, raising money like this. I’m happy that I got to be a part of it and help.”
The grand total, including those funds and donations from the “dress down days” and money raised at Seashore Housing, was $304.
“I’m overwhelmed by the generosity of the staff and residents,” said Mary. “This will forever and a day be my home, and I’m just happy that I have a chance to give back and say thanks.
