A Story from Our Board Member, Robert Hordes
Robert Hordes got his first real look at Seashore Gardens Living Center (SGLC) when his mother, Stella, broke her ankle and needed rehabilitation. “I was immediately impressed by the caring staff and the clean environment,” he said. So when he was later asked to join the board, Robert didn’t hesitate. “I was proud to be associated with such a high quality place.”
One of his first projects as a board member was to advocate for wi-fi. “Initially, when everyone conceived of the new building, they didn’t see the elderly utilizing the Internet, but it’s becoming more and more of a priority,” he noted. “When my mom was here, she was disappointed that she couldn’t check email, so we brought her a wireless ‘hot spot.’ I wanted everybody to be able to have that kind of access.”
Robert and his wife, Helene, kicked off the wi-fi campaign with their own generous donation. The Board raised enough to incorporate wi-fi in part of the Home so far, and continues to add infrastructure as funds are received.
