If there’s one thing that Janice Cambron has learned over the years, it’s that great strides start with a single step.
That’s why she’ll be lacing up her sneakers for the 14th Annual Seashore Gardens 5K Run & Health Walk and 1 Mile Fa
mily Fun Run & Walk on Sunday, April 21, 2024, on the Atlantic City Boardwalk at Stockton University. Organized by Seashore Gardens Foundation, the Run & Walk is the key fundraiser for Alzheimer’s and dementia outreach and programs.
Janice helped to conceive of the event 14 years ago. “We wanted to do something to help fund Alzheimer’s outreach programs, and at same time, we wanted to do something that was useful and beneficial to other people,” she explained. “Since exercise is very important in mitigating Alzheimer’s, and it also helps to keep all of us healthy, it was a nice match.”
She has run each year since. The memories that she’s made along the way are ones that she treasures. “I’ve had a chance to reconnect with many of our families who had loved ones at the Home, and who continue to come out and support us in their memory.” She also enjoys the location
. “The Boardwalk gives it some nice bounce, and you get to enjoy the scenery.”
What helps get her across the finish line is her “yellow feet,” the paper footsteps that represent donations to her team. “Those yellow feet just keep me going, especially when I’m down to that last quarter of a mile,” she said. “I’m so grateful for the support that we receive from people throughout the community who want to make a difference.”
